A tutorial on how to make a Candy Cake

candy cake

Ok I am going to try this ........... I hope it is understandable!

First you will need

88 mini Hersheys for a four tier cake

2 bags of hershey kisses or one big bag or you can use florals ..... or anything else you may come across!

1 or 2- 2in. styrofoam disc

2 or 3- 4in. styrofoam disc

2 or 3- 6in. styrofoam disc

2  -8 in styrofaom disc

1-10 in. styrofoam disc.

Glue gun

Double sided tape

3 wooden skewers

I start by printing all my wrappers and I use the double sided tape to secure the wrappers to the candy bars. I let them set for about a half an hour to make sure they are secure. *THE FIRST TIME I MADE ONE THE WRAPPERS WEREN'T SECURED AND HAD FALLEN OFF THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I WOKE. I have not had this problem at all since then it might have been a bad roll of tape.

Then I take the wrappers and the 4 inch disc and glue them around the disc with the glue gun. you just need a small dab of glue. I usually work so that the disc is laying on it's top and the wrappers are upside down. Just hold the candy for a second while the glue dries. HINT- YOU MAY WANT TO LAY THE WRAPPERS AROUND THE DISC TO SPACE THEM BEFORE YOU GLUE.  I use 13 candy bars for the 4 inch disc and have to glue them tightly together to make them fit correctly.

Repeat this for the 6 in., 8 in., and 10 in. discs.

6 in. - 19 candy bars

8 in. - 25 candy bars

10 in. - 31 candy bars

After the candy is all secure to each layer ........... I then center and glue a small disc under each of the disc as the candy bars are longer then the discs that I use. So the 4 in disc I will glue a 2 in. disc underneath and in the center. Now if you would like to add candy kiss under the layer you will glue two more discs under the original disc. ( So under the 4 in. disc i would glue two 2 in. disc.) this will raise the layer enough to add the kisses. I DO NOT LIKE TO SEE THE STYROFOAM AND YOU WILL SEE PARTS OF IT IF YOU ADD THE KISSES SO I JUST GLUE RIBBON AROUND THE BOTTOM LAYER OF THE STYROFOAM TO HIDE IT.

Then glue and center one or two 4 in. disc under the 6 in disc.

Then one or two 6 in. discs under the 8 in. disc.

Then on 8 in. under the 10 in. disc

DON'T FORGET IF YOU WANT TO ADD THE KISSES OR FLORAL TO ADD THE RIBBON TO THE BOTTOM DISC OF EACH LAYER.

I then cover the 10 in., 8 in., and 6 in. layer with the printed circles that I have made for for the top of each layer. NOW IF YOU ARE USING FOIL I WOULD CUT THAT AND GLUE IT TO THE TOP OF THE LAYERS BEFORE YOU GLUE THE CANDY BARS TO THE DISCS. This way you can cut and fit the foil to cover all of the styrofoam. I have made the circles so that they will cover the styrofoam and are just a hair bigger then disc.

ALSO DO NOT COVER THE TOP LAYER WITH THE PRINTED CIRCLES YET!

Then center the 8 in. layer over the 10 in layer and glue with glue gun. At this time add the candy kisses if you like. I use a small dab of glue to hold them in place.

Then center and glue the 6 in. layer on top of the 8 in. layer ......... and add kisses or floarls at this time ............ almost done!

Then center and glue the 4 in. layer on top of the 6 in. layer. Add kisses or florals.

Now I take the 3 wooden skewers and cut them so they are about a half inch shorter then the cake. Then I drive them down the center of the cake, I use a hammer to do this. This will steady the cake ........ and make it secure to move. MAKE SURE THE SKEWERS ARE NOT STICKING UP ABOVE THE TOP DISC BECAUSE YOUR TOP CIRCLE WILL NOT LAY FLAT IF YOU THEY ARE.

Then just center and glue your 4 in circle to the top and add your cake topper!

Sit back and admire your work!
